When children are taught writing as a process, they are given the tools necessary to generate and explore ideas. They learn essential techniques for expressing their ideas. And, they have the opportunity to take glimpses into their unique thought processes. When we put pen to paper and allow ourselves the freedom to brainstorm, we quickly discover how much we have to say. I commend teachers who foster this exploration and who encourage young people to find their voices as writers. Check out the awesome film Freedom Writers. I agree.
